The Canadian Cave of Cool (Goes Cold)

I started blogging in 2007 when the blogosphere was an amazing place. There was a community of like-minded bloggers that I became friends with. Although, I never met most of these people in real life, they were very supportive. Some of them even achieved fame and went on to do some amazing things. But, over the past few years, most of these blogs went silent.

Blogging started to fall by the wayside. I am guilty of this too. My blog used to be full of articles that covered a wide-range of topics. Now, I rarely post articles. I post DJ content regularly and my radio show podcast on a weekly basis, but blogging as I knew it, isn’t the same now.

One of my earliest blogging buddies was named Calvin and he ran The Cave of Cool. He was a prolific blogger who posted multiple times a day. But his blog went silent in March of last year and I had no idea why . . . until last week when I saw this post on Facebook.

It is with a heavy heart that I report that our dear friend Calvin Heighton has passed away.

His diagnosis of incurable cancer came within the last year and he was admitted into a hospice several weeks ago.

He passed away peacefully earlier today.

In the last two weeks I was able to convey to him through the hospice staff, that he was not alone. He had many friends all over the world who were thinking of him and wished him well.

I wish you a good journey into the Beyond, my friend. Farewell.

I used to rely on Calvin for movie reviews. His were always on point. His blog was really interesting and I visited it daily.

Things sure have changed for the Internet since 2008 when Calvin first started blogging. I am just glad that I got to know him online. We regularly commented on each other’s posts. I wouldn’t go see a movie without his nod of approval in a post. And I’d always go back and read his posts after I saw a film.

The Cave is colder than it has ever been. But it is still there with a rich archive.

Calvin, you are truly missed.

Rest in Peace, buddy!
