3-Sided Mix Tape

Who ever heard of a three-sided mix tape? I know that I sure hadn’t. The problem was that I wanted to make another mix tape for my girlfriend. Except this time I wanted to make sure I could put it on a CD and give her a digital copy for her iPod as well.

So this time I tried creating the tape using Garage Band. It seemed like the perfect choice since it allows you to import entire songs into the composition. And once the song is created, you can also import it directly into iTunes.

I planned on making a two-sided tape with 40 minutes on each side. This way, it could fit on an 80 minute CD with no problems. I did my spoken word intro and announced my intention and then began building the mix. Everything was going great until the program wouldn’t allow me to add any more tracks. I recorded the outro and even that got cut off. So the first side ended up being 33 minutes.

The second side cut me off early as well. I couldn’t find a way around it. The program just wouldn’t give me any more time so the second side ended up being 24 minutes. This left me with 22 minutes of time left on the CD. Hence the third side.

And through the magic of podcasting, I can share this tape with all of you. I have been trying to figure out what exactly to do with The Chase March Show. I just don’t have the time to run my own interviews as well as the ones I do for Dope FM. So this seems like a great way to use this tool. I can post a monthly mix tape for all of you. That is essentially what podcasts are, at least the ones I listen to and enjoy. This will be the first podcast of the new show format.

Unfortunately, I had some trouble uploading these files to the podcast. So for the time being, I have uploaded them directly to my website. You can listen to them online for free or download them by following the instructions below.

  1. Hey man, this was an interesting. Thanks for writing it. Do you feel as if your successfully building a good fanbase? Because I'm definetly struggling, and I thought that maybe we could help each other you know.

I have a quick question for you regarding hip hop tho.

What do you think of Techno RAp? And can you forsee more songs like "Stronger" coming out. In fact what did you think of the songs.

  2. Hi Aranes,

I tried to leave a comment on your blog but the comment feature did not seem to be working properly.

I think I have built a loyal fan base that continue to come back and read my words here. My stats aren't impressive when compared to other bloggers but I am happy to have each and every reader.

There are quite a few fans of Dope FM and the interview series that I run as well. Check the side bars for more info on the show.

As for Techno Rap, I don't think it can survive as a genre.

Rappers can occasionally use techno and it can work. Case in point is the Kanye West song you mentioned. But his current album is garbage that real hip-hop heads have dismissed for the most part.

Techno can also occasionally use rappers over the tracks but most people who listen to techno don't care about witty wordplay, flow, and delivery.

Your songs are catchy and if that is the type of music that you enjoy, than you need to continue on that path. There are probably fans for what you do. I prefer underground hip-hop but don't let that take anything away from what you do.
