Your Art Needs Your Time

“When people are having an affair, they don’t mind losing sleep, or missing meals. They will make whatever sacrifices they have to make, and they will blast through any obstacles, in order to be alone with the object of their devotion and obsession – because it matters to them.

Let yourself fall in love with your creativity like that and see what happens . . . Even if have only fifteen minutes a way . . . take it. . . . Sneak off and have an affair with your most creative self.”

What a great idea. It is so easy to get caught up in the excuse, “I don’t have time!” But I bet, just like me, you waste a lot of time every day. Perhaps it is time to stop obsessively checking Twitter or Instagram. You can close down the Facebook window you have open and spend that time creating instead.

Today’s motivation comes from Elizabeth Gilbert and her book Big Magic: Creative Living Beyond Fear. Do yourself a favour and read it. She makes some brilliant observations about the creative process. I am sure you will walk away from it feeling inspired and ready to let your creative self open up to all the possibilities.
