When I was a kid, this year would’ve been completely inconceivable for me.
In grade school, I remember brainstorming what the year 2000 would be like for a project. We all assumed everything would be different and that the calendar flipping over would be something monumental.
It turned out that we were wrong. 2000 came and went and there was nothing spectacular about it.
It turns out time doesn’t really deserve the importance we place on it. It’s our experiences and how we choose to use our time that is important. I think that I have lived a good and full life so far. I’ve done what I wanted to do.
So I guess the calendar flipping over once again is a big deal. I could never write down all the experiences I have had in my life. That document could never be written because it would take the same amount of time to write as it did to live.
My life story is written by my actions, the impressions of those around me, and the few words that I manage to get down on paper or this screen. It doesn’t fit easily into 12 month sections.
This point in time is 2009. I don’t know what the year has in store but I don’t need to. I don’t like spoilers anyway. We are here together at this point and I’m glad you are here with me. Raise your glasses and let’s toast,
“All the Best in 2009!”
