It’s amazing how quickly things can change. You can be happy, traveling along a smooth highway with a cool breeze blowing, and everything can seem perfect. But then, out of nowhere, you can find yourself diverted to a small back road.
Of course, back roads can be just as nice. The scenery is beautiful and it allows you a chance to slow down. The roads are still smooth and the ride is still enjoyable. yet, you have worry in the back of your mind that you might not be able to find your way back to the thoroughfare.
If you are lucky, you end up back on the highway and zoom happily to your destination.
If you are unlucky, the nice country roads seem to disappear and become replaced by gravel roads. The stones fill up all around your car and rattle inside your wheel wells. Some stones might even flip up and hit your windshield. At this point, you know you need to just turn around and retreat.
The crazy thing is that I could feel the relationship changing over the past couple weeks. I really did try to slow things down. I was on that country road and sure that I could make it back to the smooth roads. I could still make out clear horizon, although only barely.
While on this little detour, I made her another mix tape. I thought it might help. The last tape I made for her was in April so I would have plenty of new material. I made the tape and this time even figured out how to get it on a CD and share it will all of you.
I guess the tape gets the bad-timing award though since we broke up before I could give it to her. I had some of her stuff left over at my house and boxed it up for her. I put the CD in the bottom of the box. I hope she finds it in a few weeks. The time might help. It might not.
However, you will be able to find this tape here tomorrow. I will post the track listing and you will have the opportunity to listen to it or download it for free. I hope you will enjoy it. I enjoyed making it. I was just going to post it up today but I think it needed this introduction.
And if you are reading this, I hold no hard feelings towards you girl. Life is full of detours. And we never know where our paths will take us. All I know is that things have a tendency to work out. And in time, things will be fine. So don’t worry about me. I’ll be okay.
