I wasn’t planning on watching this show. It felt like I was getting superhero burnout from all of the comic book themed television and movies out there these days. But I am so glad I did. The first season was absolutely incredible and I had to rewrite my Top 10 TV Shows of All-Time List to fit it in. Season 2 kicks off on August 10, 2021 on The CW. I can’t wait.
I’m not sure it’s appropriate to wave a white flag right now, but I truly believe that we need to surrender under the conditions that D.L. Hughley and Doug Moe lay out for us in this brilliant book.
So here it is, my surrender.
I am doing this because . . .
“Peace and reconciliation will only happen . . . when white people surrender their unjust privileges and their delusions of ‘supremacy.’ Look your history in the face, put aside all your visions of superiority, open up your institutions so they benefit everyone in this nation, and join the rest of us as equals. That’s what I mean by surrender.”

There are so many debates as to the different eras in hip-hop. I have gotten into fights about it before from people who feel very strongly about this music and culture. One dividing line we can all agree on though is the Pre-Rakim and Post-Rakim eras. He truly changed the game by influencing how emcees rhyme, where they place their rhymes, and how they flow. He tells his own story in this great book. I highly recommend reading it.
I appreciate you taking this stroll with me through the archives. It nice to brush the dust off of some old posts and remember the highlights from last year.
