2008 Rap Up

One of the best things about the calendar flipping over to the New Year is waiting to hear the “Rap-Up.”

Skillz has been dropping yearly “Rap-Ups” since 2002. The songs are always witty, well-written takes on the year that has just passed. I look forward to them every year.

He had some excellent words to say this year. I hope you take the time to listen to him. A lot of it is about hip-hop and if you aren’t into the music, you might not appreciate what he has to say. That being said, you should listen or read what he had to say about the new president.

The following lyrics are brilliant and just need to be heard.

“We got to kill all the drama
Biggest moment ever,
Barack Obama
First black president, please believe it
I’m just happy that my Grammy got a chance to see it
It’s time for a change
so don’t go trying to turn inauguration into an all-star game
Let’s act right and show these kids
We can turn “Yes We Can” into “Yes We Did”
and Bush made it hard, be patient
Let that man go to the Whitehouse and do his job
. . .
The economy, that’s a wrap no doubt
the whole world in debt, how you bail that out?

Ya boy Skillz “Welcome to 2009!”

Brilliant, brilliant lyrics. Great job Skillz!

I know 2009 is going to be a great year. When the calendar flips again I will be waiting for your ’09 Rap Up. This has become something that many people look forward to every year, I know I sure do. Keep doing what you’re doing. Peace!

  1. Hi Joshua,

I couldn’t find the lyrics either. I transcribed these myself. All I did was play the track and pause it, scribble down what he said and start it up again. I’m sure someone will do that for the whole song soon. It usually doesn’t take long for lyrics to show up.

Just keep checking and I’m sure you’ll find them, or you can transcribe them yourself.
