Snow Day

We are in the midst of a snowstorm that is essentially crippling the city. 40 to 70 cm of snow has already fallen in some areas and it does not seem to be letting up. According to the news, another 60 cm will fall by the end of Tuesday.

The strange thing is, we seem to be in an isolated pocket, Kitchener and Windsor are virtually without snow.  In London however, everything is closed including the University of Western Ontario which has not closed down for a day in over 3 years.

As a result all is left to do is sit in one’s apartment and eat junk food – meaning I have had to go a few notches up in my “snow belt.” So, off to the store we went to stock up on appropriate snacks.  By we, I mean me and my girlfriend. She actually co-wrote this with me and took all of the photos.

What follows is a visual narrative of what we encountered on the way to the store. Enjoy the photos.

There is something hauntingly beautiful about snow.

The sidewalks are completely buried. We had to wade through knee-deep snow on our little hike,

I love how this snow drift looks a bit like a pyramid behind this row of cars in the parking lot.

Good luck buddy!

There are stairs here. Honest!

The end?

  1. So awesome!

Seriously, I love snow. This storm is reminiscent of some I experienced when living in Northern Ontario. There is nothing more beautiful than the world covered in a fresh blanket of crispy white snow.

It's so unfortunate that there are some who have had mishaps in cars today. Hopefully nobody was injured or killed. I know you had an adventure this morning; I'm so glad you're okay! Stay bundled up and enjoy some hot chocolate! I'll be living vicariously through you for now. There hasn't been so much as a flake over here…

  2. Hi Elle,

It looks like we're going to have a second consecutive snow day. Things still have not let up here. It's crazy out there.

Thanks for the well-wishes. I really appreciate it. And don't worry, tomorrow I will go out and play in the snow for you 🙂 Have a good one!

  3. Hi Chase .. Scotland's almost shut down … sheet ice on the motorways .. I'm just glad I'm not there & am glad I'm not someone trying to sort out the problem etc .. cheers & enjoy your snacks .. Hilary

  4. Hi Hilary,

What's going on with the weather? This is crazy!

It seems that the city is going to be shut down for a third day. They made the announcement hours ago. I have never seen anything like this before.

    Have a good one!
