This is a fascinating image showing a correlation between the number symbols we use every day and the number of angles in each shape. It’s brilliant!

I’m not sure about the historical accuracy of this image though. It seems like they really stretched the concept to make this work for 7 and 9. That, plus the original way these numbers were scribed looks nothing like the modern way we do it.

It would be interesting to see how the number system evolved over the years to our current state because it may have started this way.

Or maybe we could have our students create a new way of representing numbers. This could be a creative project to try out.
