It’s My Self-Referential Introduction Post

My girlfriend reads exactly one blog. Mine! The other day she asked if she could do a guest post. So without further ado, here is Witgirl.

After this I’m no longer a virgin

I’m new to the blogosphere, yet thanks to the trusty guidance of Chase March I am slowly becoming acquainted.  I know I talk a lot however when it comes to writing something, I’m at a loss for words.  I also question whether or not what I am about to write really matters.  I know I often will read a post, reflect on it then move on.  It has become a part of my daily routine, yet with all else that life has going on I soon forget.   I am by no means a writer; I am just a very curious person who is open to learning and experiencing new things.

I think it is at about this point where I should voice my opinion about something, to give my post a little street credit.  Here it is, I hope you’re ready for it.

I work in a hospital where there are a lot of veterans as patients. I have gotten to know some of them quite well over the years.
At first I thought the patients were there because they had no family members to look after them, it made sense. As I have discovered over the years, they have family, lots of them.

It seems as though family members appear when the patient is near death.

Why?

Why was this person not important before they were dying?

It really irks me to see this happen time and time again. These last minute visits seem very insincere. I see these men on a daily basis, bored and lonely. There is one man in particular who waits in the foyer daily for an hour hoping his son is coming to visit on his way home from work. The son only comes roughly once a month. I have a feeling I will be seeing him more as his father has fallen ill recently and most likely won’t live much longer. Sad isn’t it?

I guess the point I’m trying to make is if you have an older family member who lives alone, in a hospital or a nursing home take the time to visit them. They devoted so much of their life directly or indirectly helping to make yours, it’s time you do the same.

I honestly thought I wasn’t going to use this opportunity to rant about something but here I am.

One last thought for today, hopefully something bring a laugh: SOME PEOPLE ARE LIKE SLINKIES – NOT REALLY GOOD FOR ANYTHING BUT THEY BRING A SMILE TO YOUR FACE WHEN PUSHED DOWN THE STAIRS. Try not to be a slinky.

Thank you MC Lars for the title idea. We stole it from your song.
