I have been a fan of O.C. ever since I first heard him on a radio mix show back in 1994. I can’t tell you how excited I was to get the chance to kick it with him live on the radio this week.
It was hard choosing the nine O.C. tracks I could fit into the show. His catalogue of released material is huge and speaks for itself.
I was surprised to find out that he writes every single day. There must be hundreds of tracks that we haven’t heard. Yet.
O.C. truly is a legend and he’s a cool, down-to-earth guy. It was a pleasure having him on the program. We talk about hip-hop history, longevity, his affiliation with D.I.T.C., Demigodz, and Hieroglyphics, and of course, spin tons of great music.
Enjoy the show!

We have a special guest on our phone lines this week, Napoleon Da Legend. You have heard his music on this show several times, and now you get to hear him talk about his music and hard hitting issues.
We talk about white privilege and the other types of advantages that people have and might not even be aware of. We also talk about innovation and experimentation in music. It’s not always the best idea to stick to tried and true rules of hip-hop. As he says, “I know what automatically works right now” but he doesn’t just do that. He says, “I want to still be an artist that advances the music and tries.” The message here is that life is too short to conform.
Napoleon the Legend breaks it down even further, “Every great major artist that people put in their Top 10, has something totally brand new about what they did in one shape, form, or the other.
We had a great conversation that will inspire you and if you weren’t a fan before, I am sure you will be won over now. And of course, I spin tons of great new music, and sprinkle in a few underground jams from years past.
Press play and enjoy the show!

We’ve lost way too many emcees over the years. I had the idea to pay tribute to them in a special edition of Word is Bond Rap Radio.
My idea was start off the show with Ice Cube’s “Dead Homiez” and then play tracks exclusively from rappers who have passed away.
This is a show I have wanted to do for quite some time now. I just haven’t had the time. So when Xplizitsouljah asked to do a guest mix on the show and if I had any ideas for the show, I gave him this idea and he ran with it.
Let’s celebrate the music that these amazing artists have left us with. Thanks for the memories. Rest in Peace!

Tom Petty passed away Monday night and I wanted to pay tribute to him by kicking off the show with the Teenage Fan Club / De La Soul song that sampled his iconic hit “Free Falling.” After that I get into two hours of great hip-hop music mixed live on the radio. And close off the show with two of his greatest hits.
Rest in Peace, Tom Petty.

Word is Bond Rap Radio has a few world premieres for you on today’s show. First up, Oh Kg stops by the studio to drop his new single. Then we have the long-awaited Ngajuana track “Murder in Reverse.” In it, Ngajuana tells a story in rhyme from top to bottom. He then reverses the direction and tells the story from bottom to top. It’s mindblowing track that left us all speechless.
Labeled Minority also talk about the big things they have on the horizon, kick a live freestyle cipher on the air, and give away some concert tickets.
It was a fun show. If you missed it live, or just want to catch it again, press play and enjoy!

I played 150 Canadian hip-hop tracks to celebrate Canada 150 last month. This is the fourth and final installment of that series. All in all, we featured ten hours of homegrown hip-hop. This extended episode features a half hour of First Nation artists, over three hours of great music, and wraps everything up in a big way with “Ice Cold Buck Fifty” by More or Les.

The moon tried to black out the sun and everyone looked towards the sky to witness the total solar eclipse this week.
That same night on Word is Bond Rap Radio I did my best to eclipse all other playlists and podcasts with two hours of underground hip-hop mixed live on the radio.
Records passed in front of each other, like the moon and the sun. They played together to create transitions and blends. It might not have been as visually stunning as the celestial event but it wass audibly pleasing and it’s just as worthy of your time.
Press play and enjoy the show!
