Celebrating Hip-Hop’s Birthday on the Radio

94.9 CHRW Radio Western and Break North Radio Present: Word Up! A 24 Hour Celebration of Hip-Hop Culture.

This is huge. We have never dedicated an entire day to hip-hop before on Radio Western. But what better day to do it than August 11th, the official birthday of hip-hop.

There will be mixshows by live DJs, interview segments, Know Your History episodes, trivia, special guests, and much more.

This is bound to be a great day. And the best of all, it’s free. Just tune in your radio or stream in online. Celebrate hip-hop with us tomorrow.

You can catch me from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m., and then again at 12:00 noon, and finally at 3:30 p.m.

I will be looking closely at why August 11th is considered hip-hop’s birthday, why the Cold Crush Brothers never got their due, exploring the very first rap song recorded (it’s not what you think – and it’s not that one either), and looking at the four elements of hip-hop in depth.

DJ Hullewud will be on at his regular time 10:00 p.m. to 12:00 midnight with Break North Radio.

And Tyler Hetherington returns to the airwaves to kick it all off tonight at midnight.

Here is what the schedule looks like.

Don’t miss it!
