My Daredevil Collection Continues to Grow

It’s been a while since I added items to my Daredevil collection. It was long overdue, wasn’t it?

daredevil-baseball-cap-and-plushie

I picked the baseball cap up at Fan Expo last month and the plushie at a store in the mall.

daredevil-air-freshener

I couldn’t believe that there is such as thing as Daredevil air-fresheners. I don’t even use air-fresheners in my car. I hate to have things hanging from my rear-view mirror. But I bought this pack just because.

daredevil-commission

Daredevil is my favourite super-hero and I love skateboarding. What an awesome piece!

daredevil-gift-commission

These two pieces were given to me as birthday gifts for the past two years. I love them so much!

daredevil-pops

I started collecting Pop figures. I have Matt Murdock and Daredevil in his Yellow, Red, and Netflix costumes. There is one other figure that I need to add to this collection, a Man Without Fear black-costumed-figure. I hope to get it soon.

I don’t wear jewelry but this Daredevil necklace is gorgeous. It is metal and an official Marvel product.

daredevil-panel

I can’t quite add this to my collection, but I did see a really cool Daredevil panel at Fan Expo this year featuring Joe Quesada, Charlie Cox, and Elden Henson. And I took this photo.

tim-sale-autograph

The last thing I recently added to my collection is an autograph from Tim Sale. Its from Daredevil: Yellow, one of my all-time favourite books. I love everything about it. The story is amazing and it even explains why Daredevil had a yellow costume in his early days of crime fighting something that was previously never explained)

It was a pleasure meeting and talking to Tim Sale about origin stories and the work he has done in comics. Fan Expo was a lot of fun this year.

Those are my latest adds to an ever-growing Daredevil collection!

Daredevil Secrets from Fan Expo Toronto

I love going to FanExpo in Toronto every year. It’s pretty much the last event of the summer and is always a great way to wrap up the season.

Daredevil Hat Balck

I was really hoping to find a Daredevil baseball cap this year. I’ve wanted a DD hat for my collection for years. I was very happy to see this one at the convention. I bought it right away.

DD Sketch Off Duel

I was also really excited to see Alex Maleev in this sketch-off duel.

He talked about how he kicks everyone out of the house when he works. He said that his place is small and that he likes to work on the floor. I have never heard another artist say that before.

It was also surprising to hear that he never read comic books in his youth. The first time he even saw a comic was when he came to the United States in the 1990s.

He managed to get a job after only being here for two months. Apparently, he threatened to jump out the window if they didn’t hire him.

He was incredible to listen to during this panel. He took a number of questions from the audience as he worked on the challenge piece. Both artists needed to draw Doctor Doom.

Dale Keown is a penciller but Alex Maleev is also, an inker and painter. He managed to ink his drawing in the short forty minutes the two artists had to work.

Alex Maleev Sketch

This is Alex Maleev’s finished piece. They raffled it off, but I was not fortunate enough to win it.

I knew that I wouldn’t be able to attend the autograph signing session he had later in the day because it conflicted with the Doctor Who panel I was going to. I really wanted his autograph though.

Alex Maleev Autograph

My son approached Alex as soon as the panel was done and he asked him to sign my hat.

I couldn’t believe it. There were only two things I wanted to get at Fan Expo this year; a Daredevil hat and an autograph from Alex Maleev. I got them both in one item. How crazy is that?

Daredevil Hat Red

I saw this red hat and bought it too. I don’t ever want to wear the signed one now. It’s just too awesome.

Daredevil Hats

I need a bigger shelving unit for my collection now.

Daredevil HeroClix

I also bought this little HeroClix guy.

FanExpo was a lot of fun this year. I’ll post about the Doctor Who Adventures we had as well.

Stay tuned to Silent Cacophony for more!

Daredevil at Fan Expo 2014

I collected a few more autographs for my Daredevil collection last weekend at Fan Expo Toronto.

Cary Nord autograph

When I asked to get this comic signed, Cary Nord was suprrised to see this book. He said something along the lines of, “Woah, old school!”

DD hardcover autographs

This is Volume 1 of the Hardcover Collection of the second series of the book. It now has three artist autographs on it.

DD David Mack

David Mack signed this one for me a few years ago.

DD Joe Quasada

Underneath his autograph, I got one from Joe Quesada.

DD Dave Ross

And last week, I added one more autograph to this collection.

Dave Ross told me that he really loves these over-sized hardcovers.

I agree, they are so beautiful and this first volume is now even more special with three great autographs inside the front cover.

Shad Autograph

Shad, autograph, rapper, underground

Shad is an incredible rapper. In fact, I think he’s one of the best that Canada has ever seen.

I had the chance to interview him a few years back and he gave me this autograph.

You can listen to the hour-long interview with the player below, download the podcast for free, or read the transcript now.

And make sure you check for his awesome albums and EPs. He is a talented lyricist and makes great music. I love having this autograph in my collection.

If you cannot see the audio controls, listen/download the audio file here

Kool Krys Autograph

Kool Krys is a talented rap artist. Her album, “Listen to Your Art” even made it on my Top 12 albums of 2012. Even cooler is that I have it autographed now.

It was such a pleasure having her on the first roundtable discussion I ever did for the radio. It was part of our special programming for International Women’s Day and the show was quite the success.

Make sure you stay tuned to the blog and the radio to catch our 3rd Annual Women in Hip-Hop Special that will be airing on Saturday March 9th, 2013.

Classified Autograph

This concert was really good. Not only did I get to meet and hang out with one of the best rappers to ever come out of Canada, but I also got to interview him for the radio show and podcast.

Classified put on an amazing show. If you ever get a chance to see him in concert, you really must do yourself a favour and go.

I got him to autograph my concert ticket too.

I love collecting autographs. I have a lot more to share with you. In the meantime, check out these ones.

Transformers Autographs

I love going to comic book conventions and meeting some of the creative people who create the comics I enjoy.

Here are a few of the Transformers autographs I have in my collection.

I got this book autographed a few years back. It is the trade paperback to the first Generation 1 story Dreamwave Comics produced.

Pat Lee, who did the pencils for this series scribbled his name for me on the bottom right of the cover.  I also got the inker of the series, Rob Armstrong, to sign my book as well.

This autographed sketch came with the special edition of the Omnibus for IDW Comics. It is signed by Simon Furman, E.J. Su, and Don Figueroa.

The comics are doing an excellent job of telling Transformer stories while being respectful of the characters and history of the franchise. I am thankful that we have these beautifully drawn and well written stories being told. It keeps Transformers alive.

The movies have been a huge letdown with their focus on special effects and their total lack of character development. When we have over twenty years of Transformers lore to draw from, I am really surprised that the movies weren’t more carefully written. There are plenty of fans who could have done a much better job in producing the movies. I wish the creators of these comic books had written the movies, they would have been so much better.

Long live the comics!

My Autograph from Hip-Hop Legend Maestro

I have admired Maestro Fresh Wes since I first heard his iconic hit “Let Your Backbone Slide” way back in 1989. I have every album he ever dropped since then.

When Built to Last came out nearly ten years later, I caught him in concert. It was a pleasure to see Canadian Hip-Hop Royalty. Maestro put down an amazing show and surprisingly, even gave some time to the fans afterwards.

As you can see, the marker was starting to get a bit worn out and faded, but I got an autograph from Canada’s first hip-hop superstar, Maestro Fresh Wes.

I actually met again a few weeks back at the Stylus DJ Awards. He was being inducted into the Hall of Fame for his lifetime achievements in hip-hop and entertainment. Here is a small clip from that award show.

Stay tuned to this blog next week for the coverage we did for DOPEfm at this year’s Stylus DJ Awards. We were there on the red carpet and talked to quite a few amazing artists, producers, DJs, and MCs. It was a lot of fun!

Eternia Autograph

Eternia is an amazing hip-hop artist and a super-cool person.

I so love how she autographed this door poster for me last year.

We had a great discussion about hip-hop, her career, and why there seems to be a lack of women in hip-hop. You can read the transcript of that interview and download the podcast for free.

We are celebrating International Women’s Day with a special edition of DOPEfm this weekend. I hope you tune in to hear it. We will be featuring seven hours of hip-hop completely dedicated to the Women in Hip-Hop.

Eternia actually inspired me to do this show. I always loved her music and I love her even more now that I have met her.

Kish Autograph

Kish was one of my favourite rappers back in the day. He came out with an album entitled Order from Chaos in 1991 and had quite the hit with “I Rhyme the World in 80 Days.” Unfortunately, despite a solid album, he seemed to remain a one-hit wonder.

Three years later, A Nation of Hoods came out. This album is even better than his first.

He came to a mall in Hamilton for an autograph signing. I was pretty excited to meet him. I told him that I had been waiting years for this album. As you can see, he signed it “Thanks for waiting!”

I also got an autograph from DJ Supreme as well.

I’ll leave you with a track from this album. I hope you enjoy this throwback from 1994.

Here is  “Crates to Concrete” from Kish.

Brother Ali Autograph

Brother Ali is one of my all-time favourite rappers. I first blogged about him last year just before this album came out.

I can’t believe that I actually got to meet him. He was a really cool, down to earth guy. It was quite an honour to interview him for the radio too. If you missed the interview, you can read it and download it here.

This is just one of the few autographs in my collection, but it is one of my favourites.

Thanks! Brother Ali.

Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir Autograph

It was amazing to watch Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir during the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics. They were just breath-taking on the ice. They captured the hearts of Canadians and viewers across the world while they also took home Gold Medals.

I still can’t believe that I had the opportunity to meet and interview these two World Champions. It was such an honour.

Not only do I have the newspaper article to remind me of the event, but I was also able to get their autographs. Pretty cool, eh?

Joe Quesada Autograph

Joe Quesada is the editor in chief of Marvel comics. He has also written and drawn Daredevil comics. I bought this single comic because it was left out of Volume 1 of the hardcover collections.

I met Joe Quesada at a comic book convention a few years back and I got him to autograph this book for me.

This is the the second post where I have shown you some of My Daredevil Collection. I have a few more things, including some more autographs that I will share with you here in the future.

Have a great weekend!

Tha Alkaholiks’ autographs

I met Tha Alkaholiks when they played Hamilton’s infamous X-Club way back in 1996. It was one of the best concerts that I have ever been to.

I got two of the members to autograph my cassette tape cover.

This one is from Tash.
And the liner notes were signed by J-Ro.
I got them to address it to my rapper name at the time (just in case you were wondering)
I remember that concert pretty vividly. I really miss the X-Club. It was a small venue where the artists were never afraid to come and hang out with the audience after the show. I saw so many great shows there and have a handful of autographs to show for it. I will be sharing more with you later.
Pretty cool, eh?

Meet the Author

Last night I met an author. She came to my neighbourhood library to talk about her writing and to read some excerpts of her work.

Her name is Barbara Haworth-Attard.
I love how she told us that she had always written but had never even thought that it was something you could do as a career. She said, “I thought all writers were either British or dead.”
She also told us that if you want to be a writer, you should never quit your day job because you more than likely would not write. “Writing doesn’t work like that,” she said.
I found her talk to be enlightening, entertaining, and quite funny. She had quite a few fans there. I, personally, had not read any of her work yet but I just had to go to an author reading in my neighbourhood. I’m glad that I did.
I picked up a copy of her book A is for Angst

and she signed it for me.
A lot of people there told me it was hilarious. I look forward to reading it.

If you want to find out more about here, you can check her website.

My Prized Autograph from Claire Danes

I wrote Claire Danes a fan letter after watching the second episode of her amazing show “My So-Called Life.”

Something about her left me awestruck. I had to write that letter. I became an immediate fan and looked forward to Thursday nights at 8:00 to watch her on that excellent series.

I was almost floored when I received this postcard in the mail a few months later. When I scanned it into the computer, I overlapped her message from the back of the card so you can see it beside her picture.
I love how she wrote “Best of Everything and signed it with a heart. I always read it as “love Claire Danes.”
I have had this postcard framed and in my room for years now. It is my most-prized autograph in my entire collection and I’m glad that I can share it with you.

Run-DMC autograph

This is my most prized autograph. It is from all three members of Run-DMC.

Reverend Run, Daryl “D.M.C.” McDaniels and the late, great Jam Master Jay.

You can see that they autographed the door poster for me. I have it framed with my original ticket in the bottom right hand corner.

I wasn’t able to fit the entire poster into a scan so I just scanned a bit of it to share with you.

The concert was awesome. I think Run-DMC are the best group ever. I am just glad that I got to see them perform live and that I was actually able to get their autographs. It’s hard to believe that this was 15 years ago. It’s crazy how time flies.

J. Michael Straczynski’s autograph

J. Michael Straczynski is one of the best writers, period.

He wrote the amazing television series Babylon 5. The story in that series was phenomenal. It was actually a five-year arc. Plot lines continued through all five seasons and things that started in the very first episode were resolved in the finale. Amazing, amazing writing.

He has written a lot of television episodes for a variety of shows. He has also written comic books and graphic novels.

I met him at a comic book convention a few years back and got him to autograph this book. He also sat in on the panel discussion and had some very insightful things to say.

I’m proud to have this autograph in my collection. It will be displayed in the side panel for a month and then I will share another of piece of my autograph collection with you. Enjoy!

My Autograph Collection

How cool is this? I got an autograph from Kyprios at the concert Sunday night.

Even cooler is the fact that my girlfriend was able to scan it in so I can share it with all of you.

I actually have quite a few autographs in my collection. I will be sharing a different autograph with you every month. Please stay tuned for those posts. If you miss it, don’t worry, I will keep the autograph on my sidebar for that entire time.

I am really excited about displaying my collection like this for all of you to see.
